Big houses.
Rooms standing quiet
once full, now mostly storage,
with just one corner still lived in.
So many falls, yet still they stand.
The people we serve.
Photographs line the walls
faces frozen in time,
loved ones scattered across the world.
And yet, with a smile,
they return us to those moments,
carrying us there with their stories,
their laughter, their remembering.
The people we serve.
This Christmas,
if you see my lovely lady
sitting alone by the glow of her television,
or gently asleep in the quiet pause.
Knock on that window.
Offer a wave, a smile.
I know she will feel it.
Let them know they are seen.
Let them know they are remembered.
For they are the bravest
the ones who once served us all.
