According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of overweight or obese children under the age of five has risen to over 40 million worldwide. Which means childhood obesity is a critical global health issue, with the numbers rising over the past few decades. According to The House of Commons Library, 10.1% of children aged 4–5 were obese in 2021–2022, with a further 12.1% being overweight. Also, among children between the ages of 10 and 11, 23.4% were obese and 14.3% were overweight. The rate of child obesity (for children aged 10–11) was 18.7% in 2009–2010, and by 2020–2021, the number had grown to 25.5% (NHS). These data prove that childhood obesity shouldn’t be ignored, as it can lead to numerous health problems, including diabetes, heart disease, and emotional distress. Raising awareness about this issue is crucial to preventing and addressing its consequences.
